Biographyby Matt CollarFormed in San Francisco in 2005 by Australian natives guitarist Andrew Harris and guitarist/keyboardist Max McCormick, the experimental indie rock ensemble Beaten by Them also feature the talents of cellist Boima Tucker, drummer Ulf Bjorkbom, and bassist Lee Matheson. A tour in 2007 led to recording sessions at John Vanderslice's Tiny Telephone studio, where the band focused on developing its eclectic mix of rock, dance, jazz, and classic sounds. Originally mixed at McCormick's Melbourne-based Logicpole studio, the band's debut album, Signs of Life, was released on Thrill Jockey in 2008.
