Cotton Polly is a comfy blend of Sue Minsuk, Kathy Blackwell and Chris Weipert. They will pull you in with lovely hand-sewn harmonies while collectively playing guitar, banjo, violin, bass and mandola on an eclectic mix of songs. In San Francisco in the mid-90's, Sue and Kathy were Moving Violations, a folk-pop duo that made the rounds in coffeehouses throughout the Bay Area. At the same time, Chris was part of a duo, The Other Side, doing the same thing. The two groups often performed together and became fans of each other's music. Time went on, Chris played solo for awhile, Kathy and Sue continued performing off and on, mostly off.Then, sometime around the turn of the century the three friends discussed getting together again to play some music, just for fun. It took about nine years for that thought to turn into a weekly evening of dinner, conversation and music. At some point friends began to wonder what they were up to and essentially dared them to perform. A show was booked, band names were tossed around until Cotton Polly took hold, and the debut show was booked at The Lost Church in San Francisco in January of 2012. Without that forceful nudge from Ray Halliday (The Verms), Cotton Polly might never have ventured beyond the weekly get together for dinner and some music. And kudos to the amazing proprietors of The Lost Church, Brett and Elizabeth Cline, and their willingness to take a chance on three singing ladies and the “wall of wood.”Ten months later, at The Monkey House in Berkeley, Cotton Polly decided to record their show. This show is the one that you can now listen to and feel as if you were there. Ira Marlowe, the owner of this intimate venue, engineered and mixed the recording while Sue, Kathy and Chris helped and heckled him.
