The self-proclaimed lovechild of Ben Folds and Tori Amos, Michigan native’s Little Plastic Stars’ songs are soul-baring, but not without a bit of quizzicality. Years before he was writing and composing his own songs under his pseudonym, Trevor Hohenthaner was dancing around in his underwear to his dad’s VHS tape of Peter Gabriel’s “Secret World Live”. From that moment on, five-year-old Trevor decided he wanted to be a performer. Over the years, he taught himself the drums, violin, and guitar, but his first love was his upright piano. Although he was never classically trained, he developed the ability to learn and play songs by ear, a skill his mother would have him pull out at parties after she realized he’d learned Celine Dion’s “My Heart Will Go On”. Shortly thereafter, he began composing and writing songs of his own.When he was in high school, he became Little Plastic Stars, inspired by the glow-in-the-dark constellations he had in his childhood room. Little Plastic Stars has become his haven to bare his heart and soul about a wide range of topics, whether it references the difficulties he faced following his parent’s divorce, or a ridiculous spam email he’d received one morning.Trevor’s other side projects have included singer-songwriter for the rock band American Circus (which won Battle of the Bands on the Detroit 89X stage in 2012) and Black Adam (a solo electronic/house project).
