Nick Shifeton AKA David Daniel performs deep and sometimes fierce resonating vocals reminiscent of Howlin' Wolf. The band features lead guitar by virtuoso Tim Daniel whose major influences include Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page, and B.B. King. We also hear amazing drums by Clinton Cameron (the versatile drummer who has been in more bands than he can count), and the album features the incredible harmonica stylings of Tex Nakamura who was with the funk band War for 13 years, as well as the brilliant keyboard stylings and other instrumentation by David Vasquez, the most versatile keyboardist in the galaxy. Nick calls him a “one man wrecking crew.” The album is mastered and mixed by Jeff Lewis, who plays trumpet for Tierra. Jeff is always in tune with what the artist wants. Nick dedicates this album to his blues heroes, Willie Dixon, Howlin' Wolf and Johnny Winter.The album contains the first true-to-blues interpretation of Beatle John Lennon's Yer Blues. The album also has Nick's own version of Willie's Wang Dang Doodle. The rest of the songs are written and composed by Nick Shifeton. For the most part, they were written and first performed in the 1970s.Each song tells a real story. I Saw Her on the El really happened. David was on the El in Chicago, the elevated part of the Chicago subway, when he got off the subway too quickly. Many people have seen a love at first sight that got away. You Got My Love has Tim Daniel on slide guitar and Clinton Cameron on brushes and Nick's"slide vocals" in the chorus. Tim plays uniquely different leads for each song, sometimes reminiscent of B.B. King or Clapton or Page, and sometimes uniquely his own. He gets the feel of the song and takes off. When Nick heard Tex Nakamura taking off on the harmonica, he was in absolute shock. Sensuality is notable on several songs. In House of Blues, Nick reminds men of how they often have memories of beautiful and sensuous images that haunt them when a woman is no longer there. Hoochie Koochie Papa and I Just Made Love to You take sensuous images even further. One theme of the album is"the story behind the story, the feeling behind the song" as found in Three Penny Blues, I Know You'll Like This Song, and I Am The Blues. The Blues Had a Baby is the beautiful story of how the blues begat rock and roll.
