"These songs were supposed to be demos for a bigger, more expensive project, but I liked them enough to just put them out the way they were. Recorded in one or two takes, in the living room of our house, mostly with a seven year old working the board!"After hitting the road with countless bands as a saxophonist searching for stories and sounds, Jon Berman picked up guitar and songwriting...“I picked it up a little late”, Jon admits. “I started as quick as I could, but really started putting it together after recovering from cancer treatments. My wife would be grocery shopping, and I would be sitting on my tailgate in the parking lot while my son was napping in the truck… poor kid had to listen to a lot of bad notes and songwriting…”What is the saxophone’s role in your music?“The saxophone has come full circle to me. I got away from it a bit and realized it needs to be in the mix of what I do. The saxophone inspires me, keeps me sane, and has been the foundation of my life. I love the music of Joshua Redman, Stan Getz, Hank Mobley, and countless others on the horn.”So what kind of music is it, anyway?“Well, in March of 2014, I was supposed to begin a journey with some gentlemen to make a record that I had wanted to make my entire life. The songs were personal, meaningful, and no holds barred. However, timing didn’t work out… and I decided to use the demos recorded in my living room as the record. Beyond anything, these are where my heart and soul are. To play a song that reaches someone, and to add a voice from my horn on top of it makes way more sense to me than picking one over the other. But the song needs to be there… It’s all about the song. I’m not sure it should be classified or be in any specific genre… I’m so over that.
