Johnny Prill's “The Detroit Sessions” was recorded at K&R Recording Studio in Southfield, MI between 1982 and 1992. The band consisted of Johnny Prill on accordion/vocals, his dad John Sr. on bass guitar, his brother Daniel on drums/vocals, and Tommy Clair on saxophone.Included in this collection are 11 of Johnny’s most popular songs along with 6 unreleased tracks from the Detroit sessions.In 1982, Johnny wrote and recorded “Cover of the Polka News,” which was actually the B side of a 45 rpm with “Polka Holiday” being the A side. Both songs received a lot of airplay and when the record was picked up by a national distribution company, they flipped the record over and made “Cover of the Polka News” the A side. “Cover of the Polka News” was also featured on pop and country radio stations.Also in 1982, Johnny wrote and recorded “A Song for Grandma and Grandpa” which was an instant hit with radio and was covered by a number of bands.
