After graduation from high school in 1982, he entered Montgomery Junior College in Rockville, Maryland as an applied percussion major. There he studied arranging with Bill Potts, who arranged for the Buddy Rich Big Band.John’s dynamic and versatile style on drums, piano, vibes, and vocals has established him as one of the most sought-after musicians on the jazz and party scene. Locally, he has performed at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, the Smithsonian, the National Press Club, Myerhoff Symphony Hall in Baltimore, Maryland, and at Blues Alley (Washington, DC’s premier jazz club). At the national level, John has been featured on the NPR program “Riverwalk – Live at the Landing” with the Jim Cullum Jazz Band.
