Originally recorded on ‘You’ve Made My Life Complete’ LP album in 1979, Don Ange (keyboard) and Dick Schuyler(bass) touring with George Hamilton IV’s backing Band ‘The Numbers’ from North Carolina join me at Bill Clarke’s studio in West Yorkshire, along with Derek Thurlby (lead and pedal steel guitar), and Ann & Nick Barraclough (harmony vocals). Tracks 2,4,5,9,10,16. Recorded in 1994 on ‘Livin’ on Lovin’ CD album, the basic backing on rhythm guitars, lead guitar, bass, drums and dobro was originally recorded by Max T. Barnes at his studio in Nashville. At Premier Studios in Corby were added the fiddle and pedal steel guitar of Maurice Hipkiss, the harmony vocals of Patty Vetta and Geoff Ashford, and on tracks 4 and 16, the accordion of Peter Scatterty. Tracks 3,.11,14. Recorded in 2001 on ‘Tony Goodacre sings the Songs of Geoff Ashford, Derek Thurlby adds lead and pedal steel guitar to Geoff’s own backing track. Track 6. Songwriter Terry McKenna plays acoustic guitar on his own composition, to which were added the dobro of Pete Sayers, the pedal steel guitar of Gordon Huntley and the fiddle of Gerry Hale. Track 7. Sarah Jory adds her considerable talents on pedal steel guitar to the harmony vocals of Geoff Ashford, whilst Bill Clarke plays everything else at his studio in West Yorkshire. Track 12. Recorded in 1996 on his ‘40th Anniversary CD’ album at the Sight & Sound Music Workshop in South Yorkshire, the fiddle playing of Joost van Es from Holland, Maurice Hipkiss on steel guitars and Julie Kinsey on harmony vocals are added to the other backing from Geoff Ashford. Track 13. Derek Thurlby and Geoff Ashford join Bill Clarke to record this track in 1985 on a cassette only promotional release ‘The Sylvantone Songbook volume 1’). Track 15 & 17. When his studio was temporally out of action, Bill Clarke took over The Billiard Room Studio in Leeds to record these two tracks for the award winning mixed artiste promotional LP album and cassette release, ‘The Sylvantone Showcase’ in 1985. Roy Barber plays steel guitar, Geoff Ashford and Bill Clarke the other musical backing, as well as the harmony vocals.
