Devil Dust and Uprising are two of the nine new recordings that mark the first Arrows’ sessions with Dusty Watson and Sam Bolle. Heavenly Blues is an obvious rip-off of “Blues’ Theme” (I couldn’t help myself). “Heavenly Blues” was Peter Fonda’s character in “The Wild Angels”. Buzz Saw Effect is my grungy tribute to Henry Mancini’s “Peter Gunn”. I decided to re-record The Glory Stompers, the title tune of the ‘67 AIP film. With this third version I feel I FINALLY got it right! Straight Shooter (originally recorded by “The Mamas & The Papas”) from ‘65 features Russ Viot on lead vocal. Russ, Drew, Larry and I felt it was a no brainer as an Arrows’ song because of the title. The Lone Arranger developed because I was not happy with “William Tell 1967” (“Blues Theme” LP). In 1970, Larry, Drew and I recorded a new track (bass, drums and rhythm guitar). In April 2009 I finally recorded the lead guitar and Adam Marsland added the keyboard. You Really Got a Hold On Me from ‘66 features another Russ Viot lead vocal. This version of Rebel Rouser shows what a reviewer was talking about when he wrote. “…he sounds like Duane Eddy with dirty fingernails…” (Co-produced by Larry Brown). Will You Love Me Tomorrow was recorded in ‘67 and features Wayne Allwine on lead vocal, rhythm guitar and sax. Ten years later, Wayne became the 3rd official voice of “Mickey Mouse”. He passed away on May 18, 2009 after 32 years as Mickey’s voice. Recycled is another take-off on “Blues’ Theme”. Building Blocks and Lollipops is from ‘71. It was arranged by Jerry Styner who had written and/or arranged many tunes for the AIP exploitation films such as “Devil’s Angels”. Extrasensory Deception is a new version of a tune from the “Live Run” album (2000). In 1980, Jerry Styner recorded the Honky Tonk Jezebel track in Nashville with the top musicians at the time. I recorded my vocals in Los Angeles. After recording Night Crawler the way I had envisioned it, Sam suggested that we try it as a dirge. It immediately became obvious to all of us in the studio which version to use on the album. The Los Cabos track was co-produced by Drew Bennett. Lisa Mychols’ vocals were arranged by Steve Refling (engineer) and Lisa. Evil Did Too is another great Jerry Styner track with vocals again arranged by Steve and Lisa. ----Davie Allan
