1992's Dream a Little Dream was the second album from Miami-based rockers Nuclear Valdez, a group that defies easy classification. The band had a unique and experimental mix of pop and rock that seemed to touch on hard rock, AOR, and pure pop without ever settling too long in any given direction. It made for an interesting album, but one that understandably never caught on in a world of hair metal, arena rock and gimmicky pop singles. Dream a Little Dream reminds me a bit of The Front and The Neighborhoods without sounding exactly like either band. I think Nuclear Valdez was just a step ahead of their time, and as a result never got much attention. It's a shame, because both Dream a Little Dream and I Am I are both better than average pop/rock albums. Despite a changing musical climate that should have favored an eclectic band like Nuclear Valdez, the band was lost in the alternative rock crowd and disappeared for nearly a decade. I'm not really sure what kind of recommendation to give this album. It's just an interesting, late 80's pop/rock album that's well worth hearing if you're into music from the late 80's and early 90's. It's cheap enough to find a used copy, so give it a try.
