An indie pop group whose electronica-tinged tunes nod to Pavement, Of Montreal, and Field Music, the Spinto Band formed in 1996, spearheaded by Nick Krill, who was inspired to form the band when he came across some song lyrics written by his late grandfather, Roy Spinto.The Spinto Band’s third full-length studio album, Shy Pursuit, will be released May 1 through their own Spintonic Recordings. Their first LP since 2008’s Moonwink, the band created Shy Pursuit in the their club house, The Garden Center, where they wrote and mixed all 10 songs on the album, performed shows and set up their new label. Including a wide range of sounds such as pedal steel guitar, bass clarinet and Casio keyboards, Shy Pursuit also takes influence from classic pop singers that range from Harry Nilsson to Michael Jackson.Perhaps most memorable from 2005′s “Oh Mandy”, a wistful yet effervescent ukelele-driven gem that hews to the vocal stylings of Alec Ounsworth, the Delaware fivesome has been honing and evolving its pop chops since the late ’90s. Their long, hard work has paid off in a home-style video for Cookie Falls, the first cut off Shy Pursuit. Likel labelmates Dr. Dog and Generationals, The Spinto Band’s big, sweet retro arrangements perfectly soundtrack a nervous, Ginger Rogers-esque dancer performing for someone’s birthday.
