Having naturally discovered J-K from from being an original Orgy fan during the late 90's synth rock explosion (Deadsy, Videodrone, Gravity Kills, Stabbing Westward, etc), I was more than excited waiting for Death To Analog to be released. For me, DTA has since become one of the best New Wave electronic albums I have heard. With a nod to everyone from Depeche Mode to Duran Duran, Death To Analog is a very well made record filled with fat synth lines and pop hooks, while still retaining the hard-edge guitar sound from the Orgy days.On We're Here With You, Julien-K has taken the original funky synthpop sound of the early 1980's and weaved it into a bit of modern electro for a cocktail that can only be described as INTOXICATING. Imagine The Human League meets Underworld. That's We're Here With You. Julien-K bridge the gap between old and new.If you loved DTA and are a fan of classic synthpop, but still enjoy hard beats, you need this record. WHWY is very different than its predecessor, especially vocally. Ryan Shucks has become an amazing singer and this album proves it. There is quite a bit of falsetto vocals scattered throughout the record, but its VERY well done and contributes to the overall emotional experience. The tracks are longer and twice as epic this time around. The overall atmosphere of this album is very retro but modern at the same time. You could certainly play any one of these songs in a club sure, but after several spins I can assure you - This is a record with staying power for fans of New Wave, Electronic, Industrial, etc. Personally, I think this album is the best thing Ryan Shuck and Amir have done together. Deep bass beats, velvety smooth vocals, crunchy clear guitar, buzzy moog bass, and uber melodic synth lines. Now we're having fun.With their hearts in the right place, as well as a knack for classy analog synthesizer equipment, Julien-K are on the forefront of the electronic music scene. They provide a smart alternative to the ordinary electronic pop outfit. The whole record is a highlight, but I particularly fancy Colorcast. Utterly epic. Nights of Future Past and Cruel Daze of Summer are stand-outs as well.The album cover reminds me of Factory Records album artwork. A very sleek Human League/New Order look.This album is a true highlight of the genre. Also get their SDS vinyl tracks. Enjoy.
